Dear Aircastles Staff,

Thank you for being a part of the 2006 Heel to Heal event on Sunday, September 17.  Your crew did a really great job with managing the games, setting up and everything else.  They were a big help and the kids loved the activities!

I appreciate you arriving early, knowing what to do and really being self-sufficient.  The event was a huge success and you all were a big part of it!  We raised over $105,000!

I hope you enjoyed yourself and I look forward to working with you again next year.

Staff Training Safety Certification Award

Here is a sample of the Certification Award you will earn:

Staff must have certificates on location at every public rental.
Written test must be completed and passed before certificate can be issued.

Your staff ID will contain a miniature version of your certificate on the back and must be with you at every rental.

Our philosophy on training is that staff development and training is ongoing, and never stops. We want all of our staff to be trained in CPR and First Aid, though we hope you never need to use it! Please give us copies of whatever certifications you have. Even our owners continue their training and development by joining professional organizations related to this business, upgrading their certifications and taking the time to visit the specific manufacturers we use, or consider using. Principals of our company also attend annual conventions related to the amusement industry.

Thanks for doing our staff training with us. We stand out from the competition and it is because of you! Thanks for helping us whenever we need you!

You can be proud to work with our company! We are very careful about how we do business and use the Disney Corporation and the National YMCA as our role models. WE hold ourselves to a higher standard! We donate too, read about our Good Neighbor Award, and you can recommend people/organizations for this award too.

Here is a quote every customer receives from us;

"We are good at what we do, so our products and services book fast! We understand that though we may be booking many parties on your date, you are booking one, and as far as you are concerned, your party is the most important one on that date. We agree. Call or email us, any time day or night and we will make time for you and your party plans."

Here is a little story from one of our renter's who took the Air Castles And Slides' on line training program;

I just wanted to say thank you for such a professional and well run company. The rental process was easy, efficient and well worth it.  The online training was very helpful.  I read the material and thankfully was well prepared when we lost power.  The castle began to deflate and parents panicked. However, as a Certified Supervisor (which I bragged about the entire party), I was able to keep the parents calm while having enough time to get the kids out safely.  Prior to the outage, parents teased that I had to take a test and I was so serious about my whistle, after the incident, we all appreciated my ability to handle the situation calmly.

Thanks again, the castle was a huge success.

Tips are a way that a customer lets you know that you did above and beyond what they expected of you. We provide a fun and safe environment for their children, BUT you make the difference in the experience they have.

5 Ways to Be Fun or It's the little things that mean so much.

  1. Smile a lot
No matter if, or how behind you are, remember that every customer is important. You may deliver 4 or 5 moonwalks today, but they are only getting one, and they are excited about it!
  2. Talk to the kids
The kids are what make our jobs possible. Sometimes they are overexcited to the point of insanity, but showing them a little attention not only makes their day happier, it reminds you of why this is such a wonderful business to be in. Parents who observe you being nice to their kids are much more likely to recommend our company to other parents, and tip you.
  3. Bring a Little Something Extra for the Birthday Child
We provide a gift for the birthday child and siblings. Will they remember you? You bet!
  4. Tell Jokes
You don't have to be original- find 4-5 jokes that work for you and while you are setting up, tell them to the kids who are anxiously waiting to start bouncing.
  5. Bring a Little Something Extra for the Parents We also provide whistles, certificates and pens for the parents, remember to give them to the parents along with a few business cards for their family and friends. Mention that anyone who uses their name to rent from us gets a $25.00 discount.

Why Worry About Being Fun?

  • It's Good for YOU!
Staying positive and acting happy (even when you are stressed) actually helps to relieve stress. Often you can turn a bad mood around when you see the delighted reactions of the children and family at the event. This can be a stressful business- focusing on fun helps to keep you motivated.
  • It's Good for Business!
In a family-oriented business, personal impressions count for a lot. Being fun can make the difference between a "yeah, we had a moonwalk for the party" and a "you have GOT to get your next moonwalk from this company, they are great!"
  • Tell them your name, they make ask for you next time!

WE promise great service and then we go the extra mile to deliver the fun! You are a very important part of our team. We want to take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate Outstanding team members, who go above and beyond, consistently. Here are our current MVP team members:

Inflatables In The News Safety Manuals
Some examples of why we are so serious about training and the units we use:

Star Ledger
June 29, 2004

News Tribune
June 29, 2004

An inspector comments on the incident above: (Quote was provided in all caps)

AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT AN ISLAMIC CENTER. THE UNIT WAS NOT PROTECTED PROPERLY AND THE RIDE COLLAPSED.

THE OPERATOR HAD REGISTERED WITH THE DEPARTMENT 2 YEARS AGO 1 RIDE, HE NOW OWNS 30 AND THEY ALL HAVE BEEN RED TAGGED.
THE OPERATOR HAS BEEN SERVED AND IS IN RECEIPT OF A $16,200 PENALTY.  THIS IS THE RESULT OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DO NOT COMPLY.

State ride inspector recently said at a meeting: (Quote was provided in all caps)

I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU ABOUT SOME THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED IN MY OFFICE RECENTLY . . .

THERE WAS AN INCIDENT IN JUNE AT A PUBLIC SCHOOL.

5 PEOPLE WERE INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL

THE SLIDE HAD 20 PEOPLE ON IT

THE EVENT WAS NOT ON THE ITINERARY [list that goes to the State prior to a party] AND THE SLIDE WAS NOT INSPECTED.

THE RESOLUTION:  THE STATE SHOULD LOOK AT THE LAWS AGAIN.

LIMIT THE RIDES THAT ARE PERMITTED, LIMIT THE HEIGHT OF SLIDES,

PUT ORDINANCES ON INFLATABLE RIDES.

Flip switch to turn on blower on (or off.) Say it in pictures. Here is the step by step setup procedure illustrated with staff photos. It is still necessary to read the written material, and watch the video for full understanding of what they are doing in the photos. Includes Combo Jump, Climb and Slide material not available anywhere else.

October 25, 2005 Air Castles And Slides, LLC, Mrs. Henderson and Jason provided two seminars to the official PA Inspector Certification program. We introduced our online training program for a National training program and discussed Disney's customer service training program. Our programs were very well received!

The law . . .  The Safety manual is required by State Law to be with you whenever you supervise! We do have a copy attached inside a plastic folder on EVERY inflatable blower, so if you need one or an inspector needs to see one get it from there. At public rentals we prefer you to have the hard binder version but the blower version has the essential information if you forget it.

According to a recent meeting with the governing body for inflatables :

Question: PLEASE CLARIFY THE DOCUMENTS THAT HAVE TO BE ON AN EVENT SITE.

The director Answered:  YOU WILL NEED:

  1. OPERATIONS MANUALS

  2. SET UP INSTRUCTIONS

  3. MAINTENANCE LOGS

  4. TRAINING CERTIFICATIONS

  5. PRE OPERATIONS INSPECTION REPORTS [Walk-around]

Make sure you have your manual and that it is up-to-date!

You can print out the certificate above and fill in your portion and then bring it to us to initial and sign. It becomes part of your manual, which you put together from the training materials. We have some manuals already printed which you can use until you put your own manual together. You will also need to get certified with the food machines too.

We tip share!
  • We learned from the restaurant industry, it takes a team to make a good impression. Unless you loaded the vehicle, drove the vehicle, set-up the unit, supervised, took down the unit and returned it to our warehouse by yourself, other team members helped you and they deserve a fair share of the tip the team received. We divide by 'units' to determine fair share. Divide by the total 'units' to get the number of shares and then 'dish' it out. If two people 'set-up, but one person supervised for 3 hours and the same person took it down then one person gets 5 units or shares and the other person only the one unit/share for the setup. In this example a $30.00 tip would be $25.00 to the person who setup, took down and supervised with the $5.00 going to the person who only set up.
  • You don't need to tip share with Mr. or Mrs. Henderson, although you should know that the moment Mr. Henderson (or Mrs. Henderson) does any physical work you are not doing your job correctly! You are either working too slow or not efficiently. Drivers are supposed to stay with the vehicle after the contract is signed and placement of the rented units have been decided. We hired you because we believe in you!

Staff Notices:
As a staff member of AIR CASTLES AND SLIDES, LLC you are expected to be familiar with our products and services. Please read and review all the information available on our site. Links are on top of page.

Training opportunities:

If you take CPR and/or First Aid give us a copy of your cards for the file. We will reimburse (standard) training costs if you pass the course. All staff should have this training.

We are looking into a special self defense class for all staff. It is not a martial arts class, there is no 'work out' but it does provide very specific self defense. Body guards, and law enforcement use these techniques. Look for more info on this soon.

GPS

We have found GPS is very helpful, like having a cell phone while you travel. We will provide a GPS unit to select staff to use while working with us. The GPS unit needs to be returned and if lost or damaged would need to be replaced.  We are working on the criteria for which staff would get to use the GPS. At this point it will be for staff who use their personal cars for OUR advantage, example: driving other staff from place to place, or to transport our products.

OABA
We will provide membership in this professional organization if you attend a National or International training program.  We will pay for 1/2 of the membership fee if you want to be a member for the local training benefits, scholarship opportunities, and 10,000.00 life insurance policy.

Staff Legal Stuff:
Here are things you need to fill out, show us, and/or the government wants you to know.
We have tried to provide you with all applicable laws and information. If you know of something which may be of benefit for our staff please let us know.

If you are injured on the job, we do have a Workman's Compensation policy, if it is needed. Work safe and work smart!

The law . . .

  • Special section for Staff under 18  All staff are welcome to read it as well.
  • Minimum Wage ($6.15) as of Autumn 2006, there is a poster on the right. (2007 recently updated.)
  • Everyone who works for us is paid well, and paid beyond Minimum Wage!
  • Note: Staff are not paid for hours riding in the vehicle. Staff are paid a set amount per 'pick up' and per 'take down.' Most deliveries are within 1/2 hour from each other and most rentals take 20 -25 minutes to set up/take down. Supervision hours are paid per hour based on your pay rate. Pay rate may vary for pick up/set up and supervision. Pay rate is determined by education, experience, certifications, and physical ability. You have the option of getting paid for straight hours, at your lowest payrate.

Equal Opportunity Poster below.

Please  use the W-4 form provided here, or download a W-4 payroll form, print it, fill it out and give it to Mrs. Henderson. This one can be filled out on line:

The Law about overtime: 12:56-12.3 Overtime rates
The law . . .  Employees engaged in seasonal amusement occupations shall be exempt from the overtime provisions of the act. This is one of the ways that getting paid per set up and per take down can help, if you are a fast worker!

The law . . .
12:56-4.7 Employee gratuity reports

(a) Employees receiving gratuities shall report them either daily or weekly as required by the employer. The information in the report shall include:

    1. The employee's name, address and social security number;
    2. The name and address of the employer;
    3. The calendar day or week covered by the report; and
    4. The total amount of gratuities received.

You can report your tips in the 'extra information' section on the payroll form.

We don't want to compete with you!
Working with us you are learning an incredible amount about how to run an inflatable business. It would be unfair for us to provide you with this information and training and then have you take the new skills and training to work in/start another company, so we need you to promise that you will not 'compete' with us in this way. This is called a 'non compete' agreement. You may not work for us unless you agree to this 'non-compete' contract. This would cover a two year period after leaving our company and only be for the distance of a 45 minute travel (non seasonal travel time) area around our warehouse at 216 Tingley lane, Edison NJ 08820.
Seasonal Employment: The law . . .
  • “Seasonal amusement” means any exclusively recreational or amusement establishment or business which does not operate more than seven months in any calendar year or which has received during any consecutive six months of the preceding calendar year average receipts equal to or less than 33 1/3 percent of its average receipts for the other six months of that year. “Seasonal amusement” includes but is not limited to amusement rides and amusement device ticket sales, and operations of games.
  • “Seasonal amusement occupation” includes but is not limited to amusement rides and amusement device operators, cashiers who sell tickets for the rides and device, and operators of game concessions.
  • However, “seasonal amusement” does not include retail, eating or drinking concessions, camps, beach and swimming facilities, movie theatres, theatrical productions, athletic events, professional entertainment, pool and billiard parlors, circuses and outdoor shows, sport activities or centers, country club athletic facilities, bowling alleys, race tracks and like facilities which are not part of a diversified amusement enterprise.
What WE Are

Air Castles And Slides, LLC is "Seasonal Amusement" and we only operate from April through October.

Working Interview
Before becoming a member of the staff you are on a 'Working Interview' during this time you will be paid in cash, or check but no taxes will be taken out of this since you are not an employee and YOU are responsible to pay any and all taxes for this money at the end of the year. Once you become a member of our staff we will deduct all taxes as required by law.
Our pay period is from Monday through Sunday and you get paid on the following Sunday. You can elect to be paid by check, Direct Deposit, ATM card, or cash. Cash still has all legal tax deductions made from your pay.
There are special ways that inflatables, chairs, cones and signs are set up at public rentals. Learn how this is done before we arrive.
Public rentals always require supervisors and a table supervisor.
Rainy day, or a weather related cancellation when you are scheduled to work; We can't control last minute cancellations for weather, but we will give you a choice to work or stay home. We need you to be prepared to work because it may not be rainy or windy at every location. Stay in touch with the office before you leave for where ever you are meeting. If you want to work we always have bathrooms to clean, paperwork to do, walls to paint, or maintenance to perform, just tell us.

 Pay Options
To simplify payday you can select any one of the following five options. All options have all legal tax deductions made from your pay.
Cash (Deductions are made first.)
Traditional Pay Check

Direct Deposit: Avoid handling paper checks —  we deposit your pay directly into your bank accounts electronically. You may appreciate the convenience. New! Available now!

PayCard Debit Card: We deposit your pay electronically into a PayCard account each payday — it's just like Direct Deposit, but no bank account is required. PayCards look and work like debit cards. You can use your PayCard to get cash or buy goods and services at any automatic teller machine (ATM).
PayCards are ideal if you don't have access to a checking or savings account but would prefer the convenience of automatic electronic deposits. (Service subject to availability.) You will be charged $1.50 for each ATM withdrawal.

I would like all (or a portion) of my money to be donated to the charity I have specified below. We will match this pre-tax contribution up to $100.00 per year.

Write other information you want us to know, and/or take into consideration when calculating this pay period. If specific units are not in the drop down list, write them below. Don't forget to put the total amount of money you anticipate.

No Compete Agreement; (Pressing submit is an acknowledgement that you agree to the no-compete agreement written below the buttons.)

I, (the above named employee) have
had an opportunity to receive proprietary online training, personal instruction, and have/will be privy to trade secrets of Air Castles And Slides, LLC. In light of the training and experience I will be receiving, I promise 'not to compete' with Air Castles And Slides, LLC in either opening, or founding a similar business, working in a competitors' company or using the skills and information I learn while working at Air Castles And Slides, LLC to work in/with another similar company for the period of one year (one year date begins when I cease working/stop association with Air Castles And Slides, LLC) and not to work within 35 miles driving distance (circumference) of our warehouse/office location at 216 Tingley Lane, Edison NJ 08820 for an 18 month period, date also begins at the time I cease working/stop association with Air Castles And Slides, LLC.  I also promise not to work for a competitor while employed at Air Castles And Slides, LLC.

I am involved in, all or some of the following: delivering, setting up, taking down, and operating/supervising; inflatable amusement rides, food machines, and games, and/or performing other duties in Air Castles And Slides, LLC which is a seasonal amusement company. Air Castles And Slides, LLC has already begun providing training to me.
